Appendix H — The Matn of al-Durrah, with Translation¶
The complete 241-line poem al-Durrah al-Muḍiyyah fī al-Qirāʾāt al-Thalāth al-Marḍiyyah of Imām Ibn al-Jazarī (751–833 AH) — the completion of the Shāṭibiyyah covering the three readers beyond the seven: Abū Jaʿfar, Yaʿqūb, and Khalaf al-ʿĀshir. Every line is numbered and anchored, so any "Durrah line N" citation elsewhere in this book links directly here.
On the Arabic: the collated master text (base: the Zuʿbī critical edition, cross-checked word-by-word against a second witness and adjudicated from al-Īḍāḥ — see the collation log in the project sources). On the translation: working study-glosses — the rumūz (cipher words) are rendered as surface words, not decoded; the rulings live in the reader chapters (8–10). ⚠ The Durrah's cipher letters are its own: أ = Abū Jaʿfar, ب = Ibn Wardān, ج = Ibn Jammāz, ح = Yaʿqūb, ط = Ruways, ي = Rawḥ, ف = Khalaf, ض = Isḥāq, ق = Idrīs — the same letters mean different readers in the Shāṭibiyyah. Muqaddimah (المُقَدِّمَة)¶
1. قُلِ الْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِي وَحْدَهُ عَلَا ... وَمَجِّدْهُ وَاسْأَلْ عَوْنَهُ وَتَوَسَّلَا
Say: praise belongs to Allāh, who alone is exalted — glorify Him, ask His aid, and make petition.
2. وَصَلِّ عَلَى خَيْرِ الأَنَامِ مُحَمَّدٍ ... وَسَلِّمْ وَآلٍ وَالصِّحَابِ وَمَنْ تَلَا
And send blessings and peace upon the best of creation, Muḥammad, and upon his family, his Companions, and those who follow.
3. وَبَعْدُ فَخُذْ نَظْمِي حُرُوفَ ثَلاثَةٍ ... تَتِمُّ بِهَا الْعَشْرُ الْقِرَاءَاتُ وَانْقُلَا
And then: take my versification of the readings of three [imāms], by which the ten readings are completed — and transmit!
4. كَمَا هُوَ فِي تَحْبِيرِ تَيْسِيرِ سَبْعِهَا ... فَأَسْاَلُ رَبِّي أَنْ يَمُنَّ فَتَكْمُلَا
As it stands in Taḥbīr al-Taysīr [the author's completion] of its seven — so I ask my Lord to bestow His favor, that it be complete.
5. أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ عَنْهُ ابْنُ وَرْدَانَ نَاقِلٌ ... كذَاكَ ابْنُ جَمَّازٍ سُلَيْمَانُ ذُو الْعُلَا
Abū Jaʿfar — from him Ibn Wardān transmits, and likewise Ibn Jammāz, Sulaymān, the possessor of eminence.
6. وَيَعْقُوبُ قُلْ عَنْهُ رُوَيْسٌ وَرَوْحُهُمْ ... وَإِسْحَاقُ مَعْ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ خَلَفٍ تَلَا
And Yaʿqūb — say: from him [transmit] Ruways and their Rawḥ; and Isḥāq together with Idrīs recited from Khalaf.
7. لِثَانٍ أَبُو عَمْرٍو وَالاَوَّلِ نَافِعٌ ... وَثَالِثُهُمْ مَعْ أَصْلِهِ قَد تَّأصَّلَا
For the second [Yaʿqūb] the reference is Abū ʿAmr; for the first [Abū Jaʿfar], Nāfiʿ; and their third [Khalaf] stays rooted with his own aṣl [his riwāyah from Ḥamzah].
8. وَرَمْزُهُمُ ثُمَّ الرُّوَاةِ كَأَصْلِهمْ ... فَإِنْ خَالَفُوا أَذْكُرْ وَإِلاَ فَأُهْمِلَا
Their cipher letters — and then the transmitters' — are the same as their aṣl's: when they differ I mention it, and otherwise it is left unsaid.
9. وَإِنْ كِلْمَةً أَطْلَقْتُ فَالشُّهْرَةَ اعْتَمِدْ ... كَذَلِكَ تَعْرِيْفًا وَتَنْكِيْرًا اسْجِلَا
And when I leave a word unrestricted, rely on what is well known [among the reciters]; likewise register it, whether definite or indefinite.
Bāb: The Basmalah and the Mother of the Qurʾān (بَابُ الْبَسْمَلَةِ وَأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ)¶
10. وَبَسْمَلَ بَيْنَ السُّورَتَيْنِ أَئِمَّةٌ ... وَمَالِكِ حُزْ فُزْ وَالصِّرَاطَ فِهَ اسْجَلَا
Imāms pronounced the basmalah between the two sūrahs; and مَالِكِ — ḥuz ("gather"), fuz ("triumph"); and الصِّرَاطَ — fih ("fulfil") — record it.
11. وَبِالسِّينِ طِبْ وَاكْسِرْ عَلَيْهِمْ إِلَيْهِمُ ... لَدَيْهِمْ فَتًى وَالضَّمُّ فِي الْهَاءِ حُلِّلَا
And with sīn — ṭib ("be well"); and give kasrah in عَلَيْهِمْ, إِلَيْهِمْ, لَدَيْهِمْ — fatan ("a youth"); and the ḍammah in the hāʾ is made lawful…
12. عَنِ الْيَاءِ إِنْ تَسْكُنْ سِوَى الْفَرْدِ وَاضْمُمِ انْ ... تَزُلْ طَابَ إِلاَّ مَنْ يُوَلِّهِمُ فَلَا
…after the yāʾ when it is sākin — except the singular case; and give ḍamm if it [the yāʾ] falls away — ṭāba ("it was pleasant") — except in مَنْ يُوَلِّهِمْ: no.
13. وَصِلْ ضَمَّ مِيمِ الْجَمْعِ أَصْلٌ وَقَبِلَ سَا ... كِنٍ أَتْبِعًا حُزْ غَيِرُهُ أَصْلَهُ تَلَا
And join the ḍamm of the plural mīm [with a wāw] — aṣlun ("a root"); and before a sākin make it follow — ḥuz; whoever is not [named] follows his aṣl.
Bāb: The Major Assimilation (الإِدْغَامُ الْكَبِيرُ)¶
14. وَبَا الصَّاحِبِ ادْغِمْ حُطْ وَأَنْسَابَ طِبْ نُسَبْـ ... ـبِحَكْ نَذْكُرَكْ إِنَّكْ جَعَلْ خُلْفُ ذَا وِلَا
Assimilate the bāʾ of الصَّاحِبِ — ḥuṭ ("set down"); and أَنْسَابَ — ṭib; [and in] نُسَبِّحَكَ، نَذْكُرَكَ، إِنَّكَ، جَعَلَ — the khulf of this comes in succession…
15. بِنَحْلٍ قِبَلْ مَعْ أَنَّهُ النَّجْمِ مَعْ ذَهَبْ ... كِتَابَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ وَبِالْحَقِّ أَوَّلَا
…in al-Naḥl, قِبَل; with أَنَّهُ of al-Najm; with ذَهَبَ; كِتَابَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ; and the first بِالْحَقِّ.
16. وَأُدْ مَحْضَ تَأْمَنَّا تَمَارَى حُلًا تَفَكْـ ... ـكَرُوا طِبْ تُمِدُّونَنْ حَوَى أَظْهِرَنْ فُلَا
And ud ("render!") — pure [idghām] in تَأْمَنَّا; تَمَارَى — ḥulan ("ornaments"); تَفَكَّرُوا — ṭib; تُمِدُّونَنْ — ḥawā ("he gathered"); make iẓhār — fulā.
17. كَذَا التَّاءُ فِي صَفًّا وَزَجْرًا وَتِلْوِهِ ... وَذَرْوًا وَصُبْحًا عَنْهُ بَيَّتَ فِي حُلَى
Likewise the tāʾ in [وَالصَّافَّاتِ] صَفًّا and زَجْرًا and what follows it, and ذَرْوًا and صُبْحًا, from him; and بَيَّتَ — in ḥulā ("adornment").
Bāb: The Pronoun Hāʾ (هَاءُ الْكِنَايَةِ)¶
18. وَسَكِّنْ يُؤَدِّهْ مَعْ نُوَلِّهْ وَنُصْلِهِ ... وَنُؤْتِهْ وَأَلْقِهْ آَلَ وَالقَصْرُ حُمِّلَا
Make the hāʾ sākin in يُؤَدِّهْ with نُوَلِّهْ and نُصْلِهْ and نُؤْتِهْ and أَلْقِهْ — āla ("it returned"); and the qaṣr is carried.
19. كَيَتَّقْهِ وَامْدُدْ جُدْ وَسَكِّنْ بِهِ وَيَرْ ... ضَهُ جَا وَقَصْرٌ حُمْ وَالاِشْبَاعُ بُجِّلَا
As in يَتَّقْهِ; and lengthen — jud ("be generous"); and make it sākin — bih; and يَرْضَهُ — jā ("came"), with qaṣr — ḥum, and the ishbāʿ is honored.
20. وَيَأْتِهْ أَتَى يُسْرٌ وَبِالْقَصْرِ طُفْ وَأَرْ ... جِهِ بِنْ وَأَشْبِعْ جُدْ وَفِي الْكُلِّ فَانْقُلَا
And يَأْتِهْ — atā yusrun ("ease came"); and with qaṣr — ṭuf ("go around"); and أَرْجِهِ — bin ("be distinct"); and give ishbāʿ — jud; and in all of them — transmit!
21. وَفِي يَدِهِ اقْصُرْ طُلْ وَبِنْ تُرْزَقَانِهِ ... وَهَا أَهْلِهِ قَبْلَ امْكُثُوا الْكَسْرُ فُصِّلَا
And in بِيَدِهِ give qaṣr — ṭul ("be long"); and bin — تُرْزَقَانِهِ; and the hāʾ of أَهْلِهِ before امْكُثُوا — the kasrah is set out distinctly.
Bāb: Lengthening and Shortening (الْمَدُّ وَالْقَصْرُ)¶
22. وَمَدَّهُمُ وَسِّطْ وَمَا انْفَصَلَ اقْصُرَنْ ... أَلَا حُزْ وَبَعْدَ الْهَمْزِ وَاللِّينُ أُصِّلَا
Make their madd tawassuṭ; and what is disconnected [munfaṣil], shorten — alā ḥuz ("indeed, gather"); and [the madd] after the hamzah, and the līn, are given their root measure.
Bāb: Two Hamzahs in One Word (الْهَمْزَتَانِ مِنْ كَلِمَةٍ)¶
23. لِثَانِيهِمَا حَقِّقْ يَمِينٌ وَسَهِّلَنْ ... بِمَدٍّ أَتَى وَالْقَصْرُ فِي الْبَابِ حُلِّلَا
Pronounce the second of the two fully — yamīnun ("an oath"); and soften it with madd [before it] — atā ("he came"); and qaṣr in this chapter is made lawful.
24. ءَآمَنْتُمُ اخْبِرْ طِبْ أَئِنَّكْ لأَنْتَ أُدْ ... ءَأَنْ كَانَ فِدْ وَاسْأَلْ مَعَ اذْهَبْتُمُ اذْ حَلَا
ءَآمَنْتُمْ — make it a statement — ṭib; أَئِنَّكَ لَأَنْتَ — ud; أَأَنْ كَانَ — fid ("ransom"); and ask [make interrogative] — with أَذْهَبْتُمْ — idh ḥalā ("when it was sweet").
25. وَأَخْبِرْ فِي الاُولَى إِنْ تَكَرَّرْ إِذًا سِوَى ... إِذَا وَقَعَتْ مَعْ أَوَّلِ الذِّبْحِ فَاسْأَلَا
And make the first a statement when [the istifhām] is repeated — except إِذَا وَقَعَتْ, and the first of [sūrat] the Sacrifice [al-Ṣāffāt]: there, ask.
26. وَفِي الثَّانِ أَخْبِرْ حُطْ سِوَى الْعَنْكَبُ اعْكِسَا ... وَفِي النَّمْلِ الاسْتِفْهَامُ حُمْ فِيْهِمَا كِلَا
And in the second make a statement — ḥuṭ, except al-ʿAnkabūt: reverse it; and in al-Naml the istifhām — ḥum — in both of them together.
Bāb: Two Hamzahs from Two Words (الْهَمْزَتَانِ مِنْ كَلِمَتَيْنِ)¶
27. وَحَالَ اتِّفَاقٍ سَهِّلِ الثَّانِ إِذْ طَرَا ... وَحَقِّقْهُمَا كَالإِخْتِلافِ يَعِيْ وِلَا
When the two agree [in vowel], soften the second when it occurs — and pronounce both fully, as in the case of disagreement — yaʿī wilā ("he retains it in succession").
Bāb: The Single Hamzah (الْهَمْزُ الْمُفْرَدُ)¶
28. وَسَاكِنَهُ حَقِّقْ حِمَاهُ وَأَبْدِلَنْ ... إِذَنْ غَيْرَ أَنْبِئْهُمْ وَنَبِّئْهُمْ فَلَا
Pronounce the sākin [hamzah] fully — ḥimāhu ("his sanctuary"); and then substitute [it with a madd letter] — except أَنْبِئْهُمْ and نَبِّئْهُمْ: no.
29. وَرِئْيًا فَأَدْغِمْهُ كَرُؤْيَا جَمِيْعِهِ ... وَأَبْدِلْ يُؤَيِّدْ جُدْ وَنَحْوَ مُؤَجَّلَا
And رِئْيًا — assimilate it, like رُؤْيَا in all its occurrences; and substitute in يُؤَيِّدُ — jud — and the likes of مُؤَجَّلًا.
30. كَذَاكَ قُرِي اسْتُهْزِيْ وَنَاشِيَةً رِيَا ... نُبَوِّيْ يُبَطِّيْ شَانِئَكْ خَاسِئًا أَلَا
Likewise قُرِئَ, اسْتُهْزِئَ, نَاشِئَةً, رِئَاء, نُبَوِّئُ, يُبَطِّئُ, شَانِئَكَ, خَاسِئًا — indeed.
31. كَذَا مُلِئَتْ وَالْخَاطِئَهْ وَمِئَهْ فِئَهْ ... فَأَطْلِقْ لَهُ وَالْخُلْفُ فِي مَوْطِئًا أَلَا
So too مُلِئَتْ and الْخَاطِئَة and مِائَة and فِئَة — apply it generally for him; and the khulf is in مَوْطِئًا — indeed.
32. وَيَحْذِفُ مُسْتَهْزُونَ وَالْبَابَ مَعْ تَطَوْ ... يَطَوْا مُتَّكًا خَاطِيْنَ مُتَّكِئِي أُولا
And he drops [the hamzah in] مُسْتَهْزُونَ and its class, with تَطَؤُ/يَطَؤُ, مُتَّكَأً, خَاطِئِينَ, مُتَّكِئِينَ — the first ones…
33. كَمُسْتَهْزِئِيْ مُنْشُونَ خُلْفٌ بَدَا وَجُزْ ... ءًا ادْغِمْ كَهَيْئَهْ والنَّسِيْءُ وَسَهِّلَا
…as in مُسْتَهْزِئِين; in مُنْشَآت a khulf appears; and جُزْءًا — assimilate [its hamzah], like هَيْئَة; and النَّسِيء — and soften.
34. أَرَيْتَ وَإِسْرَائِيْلَ كَائِنْ وَمَدَّ أُدْ ... مَعَ اللاَّءِ هَا أَنْتُمْ وَحَقِّقْهُمَا حَلَا
أَرَأَيْتَ and إِسْرَائِيل and كَأَيِّنْ; and the madd — ud; with اللَّائِي and هَا أَنْتُمْ; and pronounce both fully — ḥalā ("it was sweet").
35. لِئَلاَّ أَجِدْ بَابَ النُّبُوءَةِ وَالنَّبِي ... ءِ أَبْدِلْ لَهُ وَالذِّئْبَ أَبْدِلْ فَيَجْمُلَا
In لِئَلَّا — ajid ("I find"); the class of النُّبُوءَة and النَّبِيء — substitute [the hamzah] for him; and الذِّئْب — substitute, and it turns out well.
36. وَلاَ نَقْلَ إِلاَّ الآنَ مَعْ يُوْنُسٍ بَدَا ... وَرِدْءًا وَأَبْدِلْ أَمَّ مِلْءُ بِهِ انْقُلَا
And no naql — except الْآنَ, which appears with [i.e., in] Yūnus, and رِدْءًا; and substitute — amma ("he led"); and مِلْءُ — with it, transfer.
Bāb: Naql, Sakt, and Stopping on the Hamzah (النَّقْلُ وَالسَّكْتُ وَالْوَقْفُ عَلَى الْهَمْزِ)¶
37. مِنِ اسْتَبْرَقٍ طِيْبٌ وَسَلْ مَعْ فَسَلْ فَشَا ... وَحَقَّقَ هَمْزَ الْوَقْفِ وَالسَّكْتَ أَهْمَلَا
In مِنِ اسْتَبْرَق — ṭībun ("goodness"); and سَلْ with فَسَلْ — fashā ("it spread"); and he pronounced the hamzah of waqf fully and abandoned the sakt.
Bāb: The Minor Assimilation (الإِدْغَامُ الصَّغِيرُ)¶
38. وَأَظْهَرَ إِذْ مَعْ قَدْ وَتَاءِ مُؤَنَّثٍ ... أَلاَ حُزْ وَعِنْدَ الثَّاءِ لِلتَّاءِ فُصِّلَا
And he made iẓhār of إِذْ, with قَدْ and the feminine tāʾ — alā ḥuz ("indeed, gather"); and at the thāʾ, [the ruling] for the tāʾ is set out separately.
39. وَهَلْ بَلْ فَتىً هَلْ مَعْ تَرَى وَلِبَا بِفَا ... نَبَذْتُ وَكَاغْفِرْ لِي يُرِدْ صَادَ حُوِّلَا
And هَلْ and بَلْ — fatan ("a youth"); هَلْ with تَرَى; and for the bāʾ [meeting] the fāʾ — nabadhtu ("I cast off"); and the like of اغْفِرْ لِي — yurid; the ṣād is changed.
40. أَخَذْتُ طُلُ اُوْرِثْتُمْ حِمىً فِدْ لَبِثْتُ عَنْـ ... ـهُمَا وَادَّغِمْ مَعْ عُذْتُ أُبْ ذَا اِعْكِسَنْ حَلَا
أَخَذْتُ — ṭul ("be long"); أُورِثْتُمْ — ḥiman fid; لَبِثْتُ — from both of them; and assimilate — together with عُذْتُ — ub ("return"); this one, reverse — ḥalā.
41. وَيَاسِيْنَ نُوْنَ اَدْغِمْ فِدًا حُطْ وَسِيْنَ مِيْـ ... ـمَ فُزْ يَلْهَثَ اَظْهِرْ أُدْ وَفِي ارْكَبْ فَشَا أَلَا
And the nūn of يس — assimilate — fidan ḥuṭ; and the sīn [before] the mīm — fuz; يَلْهَثْ — make iẓhār — ud; and in ارْكَبْ — fashā ("it spread"), indeed.
Bāb: The Sākin Nūn and Tanwīn (النُّوْنُ السَّاكِنَةُ وَالتَّنْوِيْنُ)¶
42. وَغُنَّةُ يَا وَالْوَاوِ فُزْ وَبِخَا وَغَيْـ ... ـنِ الاِخْفَا سِوَى يُنْغِضْ يَكُنْ مُنْخَنِقْ أَلَا
And the ghunnah into yāʾ and wāw — fuz; and at khāʾ and ghayn: ikhfāʾ — except يُنْغِضْ, [إِنْ] يَكُنْ [غَنِيًّا], and الْمُنْخَنِقَة — indeed.
Bāb: Opening and Inclination (الْفَتْحُ وَالإِمَالَةُ)¶
43. وَبِالْفَتْحِ قَهَّارِ الْبَوَارِ ضِعَافَ مَعْـ ... ـهُ عَيْنُ الثَّلاثِي رَانَ شَا جَاءَ مَيَّلَا
With fatḥ: الْقَهَّارِ, الْبَوَارِ, ضِعَافًا, and with it the ʿayn of the triliteral [verbs]; رَانَ — shā ("he willed"); جَاءَ — he inclined.
44. كَالابْرَارِ رُؤْيَا اللاَّمِ تَوْرَاةَ فِدْ وَلاَ ... تُمِلْ حُزْ سِوَى أَعْمَى بِسُبْحَانَ أَوَّلَا
Like الأَبْرَارِ, رُؤْيَا, [the class with] the lām, and تَوْرَاة — fid; and do not incline — ḥuz — except the first أَعْمَى in [sūrat] سُبْحَانَ [al-Isrāʾ].
45. وَطُلْ كَافِرِيْنَ الْكُلَّ وَالنَّمْلَ حُطْ وَيَا ... ءُ يَاسِيْنَ يُمْنٌ وَافْتَحِ الْبَابَ إِذْ عَلَا
And ṭul — الْكَافِرِينَ, all of it; and [that of] al-Naml — ḥuṭ; and the yāʾ of يس — yumnun ("a blessing"); and open the whole chapter, as it rose high.
Bāb: The Rāʾs, the Lāms, and Stopping on the Written Form (الرَّاءَاتُ وَاللاَّمَاتُ وَالْوَقْفُ عَلَى الْمَرْسُومِ)¶
46. كَقَالُونَ رَاءَاتٍ وَلاَمَاتٍ اتْلُهَا ... وَقِفْ يَا أَبَهْ بِالْهَا أَلاَ حُمْ وَلِمْ حَلَا
Recite the rāʾs and the lāms like Qālūn; and stop on يَا أَبَتِ with hāʾ — alā ḥum; and وَلِمْ — ḥalā.
47. وَسَائِرُهَا كَالْبَزِّ مَعْ هُوْ وَهِيْ وَعَنْـ ... ـهُ نَحْوُ عَلَيْهُنَّهْ إِليَّهْ رَوَى الْمَلَا
And the rest of them like al-Bazzī, together with هُوَ and هِيَ; and from him the like of عَلَيْهُنَّهْ and إِلَيَّهْ the assembly transmitted.
48. وَذُوْ نُدْبَةٍ مَعْ ثَمَّ طِبْ وَلِهَا احْذِفَنْ ... بِسُلْطَانِيَهْ مَالِي وَمَا هِيَ مُوْصِلَا
And the one of lament [يَا وَيْلَتَى-class] with ثَمَّ — ṭib; and drop its hāʾ in سُلْطَانِيَهْ, مَالِيَهْ, and مَا هِيَهْ when joining…
49. حِمَاهُ وَأَثْبِتْ فُزْ كَذَا احْذِفْ كِتَابِيَهْ ... حِسَابِي تَسَنَّ اقْتَدْ لَدَى الْوَصْلِ حُفِّلَا
…ḥimāhu ("his sanctuary"); and affirm — fuz; likewise drop [the hāʾ of] كِتَابِيَهْ, حِسَابِيَهْ, تَسَنَّهْ, اقْتَدِهْ in waṣl — in abundance.
50. وَأَيًّا بِأَيًّا مَّا طَوَى وَبِمَا فِدَا ... وَبِالْيَاءِ إِنْ تُحْذَفْ لِسَاكِنِهِ حَلَا
And أَيًّا as أَيًّا مَّا — ṭawā ("he folded"); and with مَا — fidā; and with the yāʾ, when it is dropped for a following sākin — ḥalā.
51. كَتُغْنِ النُّذُرْ مَنْ يُؤْتَ وَاكْسِرْ وَلامَ مَا ... لِ مَعْ وَيْكَأَنَّهْ وَيْكَأَنَّ كَذَا تَلَا
As in تُغْنِ النُّذُرُ and مَنْ يُؤْتَ; and give kasrah; and [stop on] the lām of مَالِ, with وَيْكَأَنَّهُ and وَيْكَأَنَّ — thus he recited.
Bāb: The Yāʾs of Attachment (يَاءَاتُ الإِضَافَةِ)¶
52. كَقَالُونَ أُدْ لِيْ دِيْنِ سَكِّنْ وَإِخْوَتِيْ ... وَرَبِّي افْتَحَ اَصْلًا وَاسْكِنِ الْبَابَ حُمِّلَا
Like Qālūn — ud; make [the yāʾ of] لِيَ دِينِ sākin; and إِخْوَتِي and رَبِّي — open — aṣlan ("at root"); and make the whole chapter sākin — it is carried…
53. سِوَى عِنْدَ لاَمِ الْعُرْفِ إِلاَّ النِّدَا وَغَيْـ ... ـرَ مَحْيَايَ مِنْ بَعْدِي اسْمُهُ وَاحْذِفَنْ وِلَا

60. تَلاَقِ التَّنَادِيْ بِنْ عِبَادِي اتَّقُو طَمَا ... دُعَاءِ اتْلُ وَاحْذِفْ مَعْ تُمِدُّوْنَنِي فُلَا
التَّلَاقِ and التَّنَادِ — bin; يَا عِبَادِ فَاتَّقُونِ — ṭamā ("it overflowed"); دُعَاءِ — recite; and drop — together with تُمِدُّونَنِ — fulā.
61. وَآتَانِ نَمْلٍ يُسْرُ وَصْلٍ وَتَمَّتِ الْ ... أُصُولُ بِعَوْنِ اللهِ دُرًّا مُفَصَّلَا
And آتَانِيَ of al-Naml — ease in waṣl; and the uṣūl are complete, by the help of Allāh, pearls well-strung.

64. وَالامْرُ اتْلُ وَاعْكِسْ أَوَّلَ الْقَصِّ هُوْ وَهِيْ ... يُمِلَّ هْوَ ثُمَّ هْوَ اسْكِنًا أُدْ وَحُمِّلَا
And الْأَمْرُ — recite [so]; and reverse the first of the narrative; هُوَ and هِيَ [after وَ/فَ/ثُمَّ], and يُمِلَّ هُوَ — make sākin — ud; and it is carried.
65. فَحَرِّكْ وَأَيْنَ اضْمُمْ مَلائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا ... أَزَلَّ فَشَا لاَ خَوْفَ بِالْفَتْحِ حُوِّلَا
So vocalize; and give ḍamm where لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا [join]; أَزَلَّ — fashā; and لَا خَوْفَ — changed to fatḥ.
66. وَعَدْنَا اتْلُ بَارِئْ بَابَ يَأْمُرْ أَتِمَّ حُمْ ... أُسَارَى فِدًا خِفُّ الأَمَانِيَ مُسْجَلَا
وَعَدْنَا — recite [without alif]; بَارِئْ and the يَأْمُرْ class — complete them — ḥum; أُسَارَى — fidan; the lightening of الْأَمَانِيَ — registered.
67. أَلاَ يَعْبُدُوا خَاطِبْ فَشَا يَعْمَلُونَ قُلْ ... حَوَى قَبْلَهُ أَصْلٌ وَبِالْغَيْبِ فُقْ حَلَا
أَلَّا يَعْبُدُوا — make it address — fashā; يَعْمَلُونَ — say — ḥawā; the one before it — aṣlun; and with the third person — fuq ḥalā.
68. وَقُلْ حَسَنًا مَعْهُ تُفَادُو وَنُنْسِهَا ... وَتَسْأَلْ حَوَى وَالضَّمُّ وَالرَّفْعُ أُصِّلَا
And say حَسَنًا; with it تُفَادُوهُمْ and نُنْسِهَا and تَسْأَلْ — ḥawā; and the ḍamm and the rafʿ are given their root.
69. وَكَسْرَ اتَّخِذْ أُْد سَكِّنَ اَرْنَا وَأَرْنِ حُزْ ... خِطَابَ يَقُولُو طِبْ وَقَبْلَ وَمِنْ حَلاَ
And the kasr of اتَّخِذُوا — ud; make sākin أَرِنَا and أَرِنِي — ḥuz; the address in يَقُولُونَ — ṭib; and the one before, and مِنْ — ḥalā.
70. وَقَبْلُ يَعِي إِذْ غِبْ فَتىً وَيَرَى اتْلُ خَا ... طِبًا حُزْ وَأَنَّ اكْسِرْ مَعًا حَائِزَ الْعُلَا
And the earlier one — yaʿī ("he retains"); make it third person — fatan; and يَرَى — recite addressing — ḥuz; and إِنَّ — give kasrah in both — O attainer of eminence.
71. وَأَوَّلُ يَطَّوَّع حَلاَ الْمَيْتَةَ اشْدُدَن ... وَمَيْتَهْ وَمَيْتًا أُْد وَالانْعَامُ حُلِّلَا
And the first يَطَّوَّعْ — ḥalā; الْمَيْتَة — double it, and مَيْتَة and مَيْتًا — ud; and [that of] al-Anʿām is included…

76. وَنُذْرًا وَنُكْرًا رُسْلُنَا خُشْبُ سُبْلَنَا ... حِمًا عُذْرًا اَوْ يَا قُرْبَةٌ سَكَّنَ الْمَلَا

بُيُوت — give ḍamm; and raise رَفَثٌ and فُسُوقٌ, with جِدَال; and khafḍ in الْمَلَائِكَةُ — transmit.
78. لِيَحْكُمَ جَهِّلْ حَيْثُ جَا وَيَقُولُ فَانْـ ... -صِبِ اِعْلَمْ كَثِيرُ الْبَا فِدًا وَانْصِبُوا حُلَا

80. يُضَارَ بِخِفٍّ مَعْ سُكُونٍ وَقَدْرُهُ ... فَحَرِّكْ إِذًا وَارْفَعْ وَصِيَّةَ حُطْ فُلَا
…يُضَارَ — with lightness and sukūn; and قَدَرُهُ — vocalize it then; and raise وَصِيَّةٌ — ḥuṭ fulā.
81. يُضَاعِفُهُ انْصِبْ حُزْ وَشَدِّدْهُ كَيْفَ جَا ... إِذًا حُمْ وَيَبْصُطْ بَصْطَةَ الْخَلْقِ يُعْتَلَا
يُضَاعِفَهُ — give naṣb — ḥuz; and double it however it comes — ḥum; and يَبْصُطُ and بَصْطَة of creation — elevated [with ṣād].
82. عَسِيْتُ افْتَحِ اذْ غَرْفَه يُضَمُّ دِفَاعُ حُزْ ... وَأَعْلَمُ فُزْ وَاكْسِرْ فَصُرْهُنَّ طِبْ أَلَا
عَسِيتُ — give fatḥ; غَرْفَة — is given ḍamm; دِفَاع — ḥuz; and أَعْلَمُ — fuz; and give kasr in فَصُرْهُنَّ — ṭib, indeed.
83. نِعِمَّا حُزَ اسْكِنْ أُدْ وَمَيْسَرَةِ افْتَحًَا ... كَيَحْسَبُ أُدْ وَاكْسِرْهُ فُقْ فَأَذْنُوا وِلَا
نِعِمَّا — ḥuz; make [the ʿayn] sākin — ud; and مَيْسُرَة — give fatḥ, as in يَحْسَبُ — ud; and give it kasr — fuq; فَآذَنُوا — in succession.
84. وَبِالْفَتْحِ أَنْ تُذْكِرْ بِنَصْبٍ فَصَاحَةٌ ... رِهَانٌ حِمىً يَغْفِرْ يُعَذِّبْ حَمَى الْعُلا َ

يَرَوْنَ — as address — ḥuz and fuz; يُقَاتِلُوا; تَقِيَّةً with وَضَعَتْ — ḥum; and إِنَّ — give fatḥ — fulā.
87. يُبَشِّرُ كُلًاّ فِدْ قُلِ الطَّائِرِ اتْلُ طَا ... ئِرًا حُزْ نُوَفِّي الْيَا طُوَى افْتَحْ لِمَا فُلَا
يَبْشُرُ — all of them — fid; say كَالطَّائِرِ, recite طَائِرًا — ḥuz; نُوَفِّي with yāʾ — ṭuwā; give fatḥ to لِمَا — fulā.
88. وَيَأْمُرُكُمْ فَانْصِبْ وَقُلْ يُرْجَعُونَ حُمْ ... وَحَجُّ اكْسِرَنْ وَاقْرَأْ يَضُرُّكُمُ أَلَا
And يَأْمُرَكُمْ — give naṣb; and say يُرْجَعُونَ — ḥum; and حِجُّ — give kasr; and read يَضُرُّكُمْ — indeed.
89. وَقَاتَلَ مِتُّ اضْمُمْ جَمِيعًا أَلاَ يَغْلْ ... لَ جَهِّلْ حِمىً وَالْغَيْبُ يَحْسِبُ فُضِّلَا
And قَاتَلَ; مِتُّ — give ḍamm in all — indeed; يُغَلَّ — make passive — ḥiman; and the third person in يَحْسِبُ is preferred…
90. بِكُفْرٍ وَبُخْلٍ الآخِرَ اعْكِسْ بِفَتْحِ بَا ... كَذِيْ فَرَحٍ وَاشْدُدْ يَمِيْزَ مَعًا حَلَا
…in [the verses of] disbelief and avarice; the last one — reverse, with fatḥ of the bāʾ, like one rejoicing; and double يَمِيزَ in both — ḥalā.
91. وَيَحْزُنُ فَافْتَحْ ضُمَّ كُلًاّ سِوَى الَّذِيْ ... لَدَى الأَنْبِيَا فَالضَّمُّ وَالْكَسْرُ أَحْفَلَا
And يَحْزُنُ — give fatḥ [to the yāʾ] and ḍamm [to the zāy] in all — except the one in al-Anbiyāʾ, where the ḍamm and the kasr abound.
92. سَنَكْتُبُ مَعْ مَا بَعْدُ كَالْبَصْرِ فُزْ يُبَيْ ... يِنُنْ يَكْتُمُوا خَاطِبْ حَنَا خَفَّفُوا طُلَا
سَنَكْتُبُ with what follows, like the Baṣran — fuz; لَيُبَيِّنُنَّ and [لَا] يَكْتُمُو[نَهُ] — make address — ḥanā; they lightened — ṭulā.
93. يَغُرَّنْكَ يَحْطِمْ نَذْهَبَ اوْ نُرِيَنْكَ يَسْـ ... -تَخِفَّنْ وَشَدِّدْ لَكِنِ الَّذْ مَعًَا أَلَا
يَغُرَّنْكَ, يَحْطِمَنْ, نَذْهَبَنْ, أَوْ نُرِيَنْكَ, يَسْتَخِفَّنْ [with the light nūn]; and double لَكِنَّ الَّذِ in both — indeed.

And غَيْرَ — give naṣb — fuz; the nūn of نُؤْتِيهِ — ḥuṭ; and يَدْخُلُونَ — name [its doer] — ṭib; make passive, as in [sūrat] al-Ṭawl and the Kāf [Maryam]— indeed.
98. وَفَاطِرَ مَعْ نَزَّلْ وَتِلْوَيْهِ سَمِّ حُمْ ... وَتَلْوُوْا فِدًا تَعْدُوا اتْلُ سَكِّنْ مُثَقِّلا
And [in] Fāṭir, with نَزَّلَ and its two companions — name [the doer] — ḥum; and تَلْوُوا — fidan; تَعْدُوا — recite; make sākin, with doubling.

101. وَرَفْعَ الْجُرُوحَ اعْلَمْ وَبِالنَّصْبِ مَعْ جَزَ ... اءُ نُوِّنْ وَمِثْلِ ارْفَعْ رِسَالاتِ حُوِّلَا
And the rafʿ of الْجُرُوحُ — know it; and with naṣb, جَزَاءٌ — nūnate; and مِثْلُ — raise; رِسَالَاتِ — changed.
102. مَعَ الأَوَّلِيْنَ اضْمُمْ غُيُوبِ عُيُونِ مَعْ ... جُيُوبِ شُيُوخًا فِدْ وَيَوْمَ ارْفَعِ الْمَلَا
مَعَ الْأَوَّلِينَ; give ḍamm in غُيُوب, عُيُون, with جُيُوب and شُيُوخًا — fid; and يَوْمُ — raise — O assembly.

103. وَيُصْرَفْ فَسَمَّي نَحْشُرُ الْيَا نَقُولُ مَعْ ... سَبَأْ لَمْ يَكُنْ وَانْصِبْ نُكَذِّبُ وَالْوِلَا

109. وَطِبْ مُسْتَقِرُّ افْتَحْ وَكَسْرَ انَّهَا وَيُؤْ ... مِنُوافِدْ وَحَبْرٌ سَمِّ حُرِّمَ فُصِّلَا

110. وَحُزْ كَلِمَتْ وَالْيَاءُ نَحْشُرُهُمْ يَدٌ ... يَكُونَ يَكُنْ أَنِّثْ وَمَيْتَةً انْجَلَا

111. بِرَفْعِ مَعًا عَنْهُ وَذَكِّر يَكُونَ فُزْ ... وَخِفُّ وَأَنْ حِفْظٌ وَقُلْ فَرَّقُوا فُلَا
…with rafʿ in both, from him; and make يَكُونَ masculine — fuz; and the lightness; and أَنْ — a safeguard; and say فَارَقُوا — fulā.
112. وَعَشْرُ فَنَوِّنْ وَارْفَعْ اَمْثَالِهَا حُلًا ... كَذَا الضِّعْفِ وَانْصِبْ قَبْلَهُ نَوِّنًا طُلَا
And عَشْرٌ — nūnate; and raise أَمْثَالُهَا — ḥulan; likewise الضِّعْفِ; and give naṣb to the one before it, nūnating — ṭulā.

Here تُخْرَجُونَ — he named [its doer] — ḥiman; the naṣb of خَالِصَةً — atā; تُفَتَّحُ — double, together with أُبَلِّغُكُمْ — ḥalā.
114. يُغَشِّيْ لَهُ أَنْ لَعْنَةُ اتْلُ كَحَمْزَةٍ ... وَلاَ يَخْرُجُ اضْمُمْ وَاكْسِرِ الْخُلْفُ بُجِّلَا
يُغَشِّي — for him; أَنْ لَعْنَةُ — recite like Ḥamzah; and لَا يَخْرُجُ — give ḍamm and kasr — the khulf is honored.
115. وَخَفْضُ إِلَهٍ غَيْرُهُ نَكِدًاأَلاَ افْـ ... تَحَنْ يَقْتُلُوا مَعْ يَتْبَعُ اشْدُدْ وَقُلْ عَلَا
And the khafḍ of إِلَهٍ غَيْرِهِ; نَكِدًا — indeed, give fatḥ; يُقَتِّلُوا with يَتَّبِعُ — double; and say — it rose…
116. لَهُ وَرِسَالَتْ يَحْلُ وَاضْمُمْ حُلِيِّ فِدْ ... وَحُزْ حَلْيِهِمْ تُغْفَرْ خَطِيْئَاتُ حُمِّلَا

117. كَوَرْشٍ يَقُولُوا خَاطِبَنْ حُمْ وَيَلْحَدُو اضْـ ... -مُمِ اكْسِرْ كَحَا فِدْ ضُمَّ طَا يَبْطِشُ اسْجِلَا

118. وَقَصْرَ أَنَا مَعْ كَسْرٍ اعْلَمْ وَمُرْدِفِي افْـ ... -تَحَنْ مُوْهِنٌ وَاقْرَأْ يُغَشِّي انْصِبِ الْوِلَا
And the qaṣr of أَنَا with kasr — know it; and مُرْدِفِي — give fatḥ; مُوهِنٌ; and read يُغَشِّي; give naṣb to what follows…
119. حَلاَ يَعْمَلُوا خَاطِبْ طَرَى حَيَّ أَظْهِرَنْ ... فَتًى حُ- زْ وَيَحْسَبْ أُدْ وَخَاطَبَ فَاعْتَلَا
…ḥalā; يَعْمَلُونَ — address — ṭarā; حَيَّ — make iẓhār — fatan ḥuz; and يَحْسَبُ — ud; and he addressed — so it rose high.
120. وَفِي تُرْهِبُوا اشْدُدْ طِبْ وَضُعْفًا فَحَرِّكِ امْـ ... -دُدِ اهْمِزْ بِلا نُوْنٍ أُسَارَى مَعًا أَلَا
And in تُرْهِبُوا — double — ṭib; and ضُعْفًا — vocalize, prolong, pronounce the hamzah, without nūn; أُسَارَى in both — indeed.
121. يَكُونَ فَأَنِّثْ إِذْ وِلاَيَةَ ذِي افْتَحَنْ ... فِنًا وَاقْرَإِ الأَسْرَى حَمِيْدًا مُحَصِّلَا
يَكُونَ — make feminine — idh; this وِلَايَة — give fatḥ — finan; and read الْأَسْرَى — praiseworthy, attaining.

123. فَسَكِّنْ جَمِيْعًا وَامْدُدْ اثْنَا يَضِلُّ حُطْ ... بِضَمٍّ وَخِفَّ اسْكِنْ مَعَ الْفَتْحِ مَدْخَلَا
…make it sākin in all; and prolong اثْنَا; يُضِلُّ — ḥuṭ — with ḍamm; and the lightness; make sākin with fatḥ — مُدْخَلًا.
124. وَكِلْمَةُ فَانْصِبْ ثَانِيًا ضُمَّ مِيْمَ يَلْـ ... -مِزُ الْكُلَّ حُزْ وَالرَّفْعُ فِي رَحْمَةٍ فُلَا
And كَلِمَةُ — give naṣb to the second; give ḍamm to the mīm of يَلْمِزُ — all of them — ḥuz; and the rafʿ in رَحْمَةٌ — fulā.
125. وَفِي الْمُعْذِرُونَ الْخِفُّ وَالسُّوءِ فَافْتَحًا ... وَالانْصَارِ فَارْفَعْ حُزْ وَأُسِّسَ وَالْوِلَا
And in الْمُعْذِرُونَ — the lightness; and السَّوْءِ — give fatḥ; and الْأَنْصَارُ — raise — ḥuz; and أُسِّسَ and its companions…
126. فَسَمِّ انْصِبِ اتْلُ افْتَحْ تُقَطَّعَ إِذْ حِمىً ... وَبِالضَّمِّ فُزْ إِلاَّ أَنِ الْخِفُّ قُلْ إِلَى
…name [the doer], give naṣb, recite, give fatḥ; تَقَطَّعَ — idh ḥiman; and with ḍamm — fuz; إِلَّا أَنِ — the lightness — say — until.
127. يَرَوْنَ خِطَابًا حُزْ وَبِالْغَيْبِ فِدْ يَزِيْـ ... -غُ أَنِّثْ فَشَا افْتَحْ إِنَّهُ يَبْدَؤُ انْجَلَا
يَرَوْنَ — as address — ḥuz; and with the third person — fid; يَزِيغُ — make feminine — fashā; give fatḥ to إِنَّهُ; يَبْدَأُ became clear.
128. وَقُلْ لَقَضَى كَالشَّامِ حُمْ يَمْكُرُوايَدٌ ... وَيَنْشُرُكُمْ أُد قِطْعًا اسْكِنْ حُلىً حَلَا
And say لَقَضَى [as] the Shām[-reader does] — ḥum; يَمْكُرُونَ — a hand; and يَنْشُرُكُمْ — ud; قِطْعًا — make sākin — ḥulan ḥalā.
129. يَهِدِّيْ سُكُونُ الْهَاءِ إِذْ كَسْرُهَا حَوَى ... وَفَلْيَفْرَحُوا خَاطِبْ طِلًا يَجْمَعُوا طَلَى
يَهْدِّي — sukūn of the hāʾ — idh; its kasr — ḥawā; and فَلْيَفْرَحُوا — address — ṭilan; يَجْمَعُونَ — ṭalā.
130. إِذًا أَصْغَرَ ارْفَعْ حُقَّ مَعْ شُرَكَاءَكُمْ ... كَأَكْبَرْ وَوَصْلٌ فَاجْمَعُوا افْتَحْ طَوًى اسْئَلَا
Then أَصْغَرُ — raise — it is due — with شُرَكَاؤُكُمْ, like أَكْبَر; and a joining hamzah in فَاجْمَعُوا — give fatḥ [to its mīm] — ṭawan — ask!
131. ءَأَلسِّحْرُ أَمْ أَخْبِرْ حُلىً وَافْتِحِ اتْلُ فَا ... قَ إِنِّي لَكُمْ إِبْدَالُ بَادِىَء حُمِّلَا
آلسِّحْرُ — make it a statement — ḥulan; and give fatḥ — recite — he excelled; إِنِّي لَكُمْ; the substitution of بَادِئ — carried.
132. عَمِلْ غَيْرَ حَبْرٌ كَالْكِسَائِي وَنَوِّنُوا ... ثَمُودَ فِدًا وَاتْرُكْ حِمًا سِلْمُ فَانْقُلَا
عَمِلَ غَيْرَ — a learned one — like al-Kisāʾī; and nūnate ثَمُودَ — fidan; and leave [it] — ḥiman; سِلْمٌ — so transmit…
133. سَلامٌ وَيَعْقُوبَ ارْفَعَنْ فُزْ وَنَصْبُ حَا ... فِظِ امْرَأَتُكْ إِنْ كُلًاّ اتْلُ مُثَقِّلَا

134. وَلَمَّا مَعَ الطَّارِقْ أَتَى وَبِيَا وَزُخْـ ... -رُفٍ جُدْ وَخِفُّ الْكُلِّ فُقْ زُلَفَا أَلَا
And لَمَّا, with [that of] al-Ṭāriq — atā; and with yāʾ, and [in] al-Zukhruf — jud; and the lightness of them all — fuq; زُلَفًا — indeed…
135. بِضَمٍّ وَخَفِّفْ وَاكْسِرَنْ بِقْيَةٍ جَنَى ... وَمَا يَعْمَلُوا خَاطِبْ مَعَ النَّمْلِ حُفَّلَا

138. وَطِبْ رَفْعَ أَللهِ ابْتِدَاءً كَذَا اكْسِرَنْ ... نَ أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا وَاخْفِضِ افْتَحْهُ مُوْصِلَا
And ṭib — the rafʿ of اللهُ at the beginning; likewise give kasr in أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا; and give khafḍ — [or] give it fatḥ, joining.
139. يَضِلُّ اضْمُمَنْ لُقْمَانَ حُزْ غَيْرُهَا يَدٌ ... وَفُزْ مُصْرِخِيِّ افْتَحْ عَلِيٌّ كَذَا حَلاَ
يُضِلُّ — give ḍamm; [in] Luqmān — ḥuz; elsewhere — a hand; and fuz — مُصْرِخِيِّ — give fatḥ; elevated, thus — ḥalā.
140. وَيَقْنَطُ كَسْرُ النُّوْنِ فُزْ وَتُبَشِّرُو ... نِ فَافْتَحْ أَبًا يُنْزِلْ وَمَا بَعْدُ يُجْتَلَا
And يَقْنِطُ — kasr of the nūn — fuz; and تُبَشِّرُونِ — give fatḥ; أَبًا? يُنْزِلْ and what follows is brought forth…
141. كَمَا الْقِدْرُ شِقِّ افْتَحْ تُشَاقُّونِ نُوْنَهُ اتْـ ... -لُ يَدْعُونَ حِفْظٌ مُفْرِطُونَ اشْدُدِ الْعُلَا
…as in [sūrat] al-Qadr; شِقِّ — give fatḥ; تُشَاقُّونِ — its nūn — recite; يَدْعُونَ — a safeguard; مُفْرِطُونَ — double — الْعُلَا.

And نُسْقِيكُمْ — give fatḥ — ḥum; and make feminine then; and يَجْحَدُونَ — address — ṭib; likewise يَرَوْا — ḥulā.
143. وَيُنْزِلُ عَنْهُ اشْدُدْ لِيَجْزِيَ نُونٌ اِذْ ... وَيَتَّخِذُوا خَاطِبْ حَلاَ نخْرِجُ انْجَلَا
And يُنَزِّلُ, from him — double; لِيَجْزِيَ — with nūn — idh; and يَتَّخِذُوا — address — ḥalā; نُخْرِجُ became clear…
144. حَوَى الْيَا وَضُمَّ افْتَحْ أَلاَ افْتَحْ وَضُمَّ حُطْ ... وَحُزْ مَدَّ آمَرْنَا يُلَقَّاهُ أُوْصِلَا

145. وَأُفِّ افْتَحَنْ حَقًّا وَقُلْ خَطَأً أَتَى ... وَنَخْسِفْ نُعْيْدَ الْيَا وَنُرْسِلَ حُمِّلَا
And أُفِّ — give fatḥ — truly; and say خَطَأً — atā; and نَخْسِفْ, نُعِيدَ — the yāʾ — and نُرْسِلَ — carried.
146. وَنُغْرِقَ يَمٌّ أَنِّثِ اتْلُ طَمَى وَشَدْ ... دِدِ الْخُلْفَ بِنْ وَالرِّيْحِ بِالْجَمْعِ أُصِّلَا
And نُغْرِقَ — a sea; make feminine — recite — ṭamā; and double — the khulf — bin; and الرِّيح in the plural is given root…
147. كَصَادَ سَبَأْ وَالأَنْبِيَا نَاءَ أُدْ مَعًا ... خِلافَكَ مَعْ تَفْجُرْ لَنَا الْخِفُّ حُمِّلَا
…as in Ṣād, Sabaʾ, and al-Anbiyāʾ; نَاءَ — ud — in both; unlike you, with تَفْجُرَ لَنَا — the lightness carried.

148. وَتَزْوَرُّ حُزْ وَاكْسِرْ بِوَرْقِ كَثُمْرِهِ ... بِضَمَّيْ طُوىً فَتْحَا اتْلُ يَا ثُمْرٌ إِذْ حَلَا
تَزْوَرُّ — ḥuz; and give kasr in بِوَرْقِ; like ثُمْرِهِ with two ḍammahs — ṭuwan; the two fatḥs — recite; O ثُمْر — idh ḥalā.
149. وَمَدُّكَ لَكِنَّا أَلاَ طِبْ نُسَيِّرُ الْـ ... جِبَالَ كَحَفْصِ الْحَقُّ بِالْخَفْضِ حُلِّلَا
And your madd in لَكِنَّا — indeed — ṭib; نُسَيِّرُ الْجِبَالَ like Ḥafṣ; الْحَقِّ with khafḍ is made lawful.
150. وَكُنْتُ افْتَحَ اشْهَدْنَا وَحَامِيَةٍ وَضَمْـ ... -مَتَيْ قُبُلًا أُدْ يَا نَقُولُ فَكَمِّلَا
And كُنْتَ — give fatḥ; أَشْهَدْنَا? and حَامِيَةٍ; and the two ḍammahs of قُبُلًا — ud; the yāʾ in نَقُولُ — so complete it.
151. زَكِيَّةَ يَسْمُوا كُلَّ يُبْدِلَ خِفَّ حُطْ ... جَزَاءُ كَحَفْصٍ ضَمُّ سَدَّيْنِ حُوِّلَا
زَكِيَّةً — it rises; every يُبْدِلَ — lighten — ḥuṭ; جَزَاءُ like Ḥafṣ; the ḍamm of سُدَّيْنِ — changed…
152. كَسَدًّا هُنَا آتُوْنِ بِالْمَدِّ فَاخِرٌ ... وَعَنْهُ فَمَا اسْطَاعُوا يُخَفِّفُ فَاقْبَلَا
…like سَدًّا here; آتُونِي with madd — excellent; and from him فَمَا اسْطَاعُوا he lightens — so accept.

154. وَنَسْيًاٍ بِكَسْر فُز وَمَنْ تَحْتَهَا اكْسِرِ اخْـ ... -فِضًا يَعْلُ تَسَّاقَطْ فَذَكِّرْ حُلًا حَلَا
And نِسْيًا with kasr — fuz; and مَنْ تَحْتَهَا — give kasr [i.e. مِنْ], with khafḍ — it rises; تَسَّاقَطْ — make masculine — ḥulan ḥalā.
155. وَشَدِّدْ فَتىً قَوْلُ انْصِبًا حُزْ وَأَنَّ فَاكْـ ... سِرَنْ يَحْلُ نُوْرِثْ شُدَّ طِبْ يَذْكُرُ اعْتَلَا
And double — fatan; قَوْلَ — give naṣb — ḥuz; and إِنَّ — give kasr; يَحِلُّ? نُوَرِّثُ — double — ṭib; يَذَّكَّرُ rose high.
156. وَفُزْ وَلَدًا لاَ نُوْحَ فَافْتَحْ يَكَادُ أَنْ ... نِثِ اِنِّي أَنَا افْتَحْ آدَ وَالْكَسْرَ حُطْ وَلَا
And fuz — وُلْدًا — not [that of] Nūḥ — give fatḥ; يَكَادُ — make feminine; إِنِّي أَنَا — give fatḥ — āda; and the kasr — ḥuṭ; and…
157. أَنَا اخْتَرْتُ فِدْ سَكِّنْ لِتُصْنَعْ وَاجْزِمَنْ ... كَنُخْلِفْهُ أَسْنَى اضْمُمْ سِوًى حُمْ وَطُوِّلَا
…أَنَا اخْتَرْتُ? — fid; make sākin وَلِتُصْنَعْ and give jazm, as in نُخْلِفْهُ; أَسْنَى? — give ḍamm سُوًى — ḥum; and lengthened.
158. فَيَسْحَتَ ضُمَّ اكْسِرْ وَبِالْقَطْعِ أَجْمِعُوا ... وَهَذَانِ حُزْ أَنِّثْ يُخَيِّلُ يُجْتَلَى
فَيُسْحِتَ — give ḍamm and kasr; and with the cutting hamzah — فَأَجْمِعُوا; and هَذَانِّ — ḥuz; make feminine يُخَيَّلُ — brought forth.
159. وَفُزْ لاَ تَخَافُ ارْفَعْ وَإِثْرِي اكْسِرِ اِسْكِنَنْ ... كَذَا اضْمُمْ حَمَلْنَا وَاكْسِرِ اشْدُدْ طَ- مَا وَلَا
And fuz — لَا تَخَافُ — raise; and إِثْرِي — give kasr and sukūn; likewise give ḍamm حُمِّلْنَا and kasr and doubling — ṭamā; and…
160. لِنُحْرِقَ سَكِّنْ خَفِّفْ اعْلَمْهُ وَافْتَحًا ... وَضُمَّ بَدَا نَنْفُخْ بِيَا حُلْ مُجَهِّلَا
…لَنُحْرِقَنَّهُ — make sākin and lighten — know it; and give fatḥ and ḍamm — it appeared; نُنْفَخُ? يُنْفَخُ with yāʾ — ḥul, made passive.
161. وَيُقْضَى بِنُوْنٍ سَمِّ وَانْصِبْ كَوَحْيُهُ ... لِيَعْقُوبِهِمْ وَافْتَحْ وَإِنَّكَ لاَ انْجَلَا
And يُقْضَى — with nūn — name [the doer] and give naṣb, as in وَحْيُهُ — for their Yaʿqūb; and give fatḥ; وَإِنَّكَ لَا — it became clear.
162. وَزَهْرَةَ فَتْحُ الْهَا حُلًا يَأْتِهِمْ بَدَا ... وَطِبْ نُوْنَ يُحْصِنْ أَنِّثًا أُدْ وَجُهِّلَا
And زَهَرَة — fatḥ of the hāʾ — ḥulan; تَأْتِهِمْ appeared; and ṭib — the nūn of يُحْصِنَّ; make feminine — ud; and made passive…
163. مَعَ الْيَاءِ نَقْدِرْ حُْز حَرَامٌ فَشَا وَأَنْ ... نِثَنْ جَهِّلَنْ نَطْوِي السَّمَاءَ ارْفَعِ الْعُلَا
…with the yāʾ; نَقْدِرُ — ḥuz; حَرَامٌ — fashā; and make feminine, make passive — تُطْوَى; السَّمَاءُ — raise — الْعُلَا.
164. وَبَا رَبِّ ضُمَّ اهْمِزْ مَعًا رَبَأَتْ أَتَى ... لِيَقْطَعْ لِيَقْضُوا أَسْكِنُوا اللاَّمَ يَا أُولَى
And the bāʾ of رَبِّ? — give ḍamm; pronounce hamzah in both رَبَأَتْ — atā; لِيَقْطَعْ and لِيَقْضُوا — they made the lām sākin, O foremost ones.
165. وَلُؤْلُؤٍ انْصِبْ ذِيْ وَأَنِّثْ يَنَالَ فِيْـ ... ـهِمَا وَمُعَاجِزِيْنَ بِالْمَدِّ حُلِّلَا
And لُؤْلُؤًا — give naṣb — this one; and make feminine تَنَالَ in both; and مُعَاجِزِينَ with madd is made lawful.
166. وَيَدْعُونَ الاُخْرَى فَتْحُ سِيْنَا حِمًى وَتُنْـ ... -بِتُ افْتَحْ بِضَمٍّ يَحْلُ هَيْهَاتَ أُدْ كِلَا
And يَدْعُونَ — the other one; the fatḥ of سِينَا — ḥiman; and تُنْبِتُ — give fatḥ with ḍamm; it becomes lawful; هَيْهَاتِ — ud — both.
167. فَلِلتَّا اكْسِرَنْ وَالْفَتْحُ وَالضَّمُّ تَهْجُرُو ... نَ تَنْوِيْنُ تَتْرَا آهِلٌ وَحُلىً بِلاَ

191. وَشَدِّدْ فَشَا وَاقْصُرْ أَبًا فَاكِهِيْنَ فَا ... كِهُو ضُمَّ بَا جُبْلًا حَلاَ اللاَّمَ ثَقِّلَا
And double — fashā; and shorten; أَبًا? فَاكِهِينَ / فَكِهُونَ; give ḍamm to the bāʾ of جُبُلًّا — ḥalā; make the lām heavy.
192. يَهُنْ نَنْكُسِ افْتَحْ ضُمَّ خَفِّفْ فِدًا وَحُطْ ... لِيُنْذِرَ خَاطِبْ يَقْدِرُ الْحِقْفُ حُوِّلَا
يَهُنْ? نُنَكِّسْ — give fatḥ, ḍamm, and lighten — fidan and ḥuṭ; لِتُنْذِرَ — address; يَقْدِرُ? — الْحِقْف changed.
193. وَطَابَ هُنَا وَاحْذِفْ لِتَنْوِينِ زِيْنَةٍ ... فِنًا وَاسْكِنَنْ أَوْ أُدْ وَكَالْبَزِّ أَوْصِلَا
And ṭāba here; and drop, for the tanwīn of زِينَةٍ — finan; and make sākin أَوَ — ud; and like al-Bazzī — join.
194. تَنَاصَرُوا اشْدُدْ تَا تَلَظَّى طُوًى يَزِفْـ ... -فُ فَافْتَحْ فَتىً وَاللهُ رَبُّ انْصِبَنْ حَلَا
تَنَاصَرُونَ — double the tāʾ, [as in] تَلَظَّى — ṭuwan; يُزَفُّونَ? يَزِفُّونَ — give fatḥ — fatan; and اللهَ رَبَّ — give naṣb — ḥalā.
195. وَرَبُّ وَإِلْيَاسِيْنَ كَالْبَصْرِ أُدْ وَكَالْـ ... -مَدِيْنِي حَلاَ وَصْلُ اصْطَفَى أَصْلُهُ اعْتَلَا
And رَبُّ; and إِلْيَاسِينَ like the Baṣran — ud; and like the Madanī — ḥalā; the joining [hamzah] of اصْطَفَى — its root rose high.

سَوَاءً — atā; give khafḍ — ḥuz; and نَحِسَاتٍ — kasr of the ḥāʾ; and نَحْشُرُ أَعْدَاءَ — the yāʾ — recite, and raise, making passive.
201. وَبِالنُّوْنِ سَمَّى حُمْ يُبَشِّرُ فِي حِمًى ... وَيُرْسِلُ يُوْحِيْ انْصِبْ أَلاَ عِنْدَ حُوِّلَا
And with the nūn he named — ḥum; يَبْشُرُ in — ḥiman; and يُرْسِلَ and فَيُوحِيَ — give naṣb — indeed; عِنْدَ — changed.
202. وَجِئْنَاكُمُ سَقْفًا كَبَصْرٍ إِذًا وَحُزْ ... كَحَفْصٍ نُقَيِّضْ يَا وَأَسْوِرَةٌ حُلَا
And جِئْنَاكُمْ? — سَقْفًا like the Baṣran, then; and ḥuz — like Ḥafṣ; نُقَيِّضْ with yāʾ; and أَسْوِرَةٌ — ḥulā.
203. وَفِي سُلُفًا فَتْحَانِ ضُمَّ يَصِدُّ فُقْ ... وَيَلْقَوْا كَسَالَ الطُّوْرِ بِالْفَتْحِ أُصِّلَا
And in سُلُفًا — two fatḥs; give ḍamm to يَصِدُّ — fuq; and يُلَقَّوْا, like سَالَ? — [that of] al-Ṭūr with fatḥ is given root.
204. وَطِبْ يَرْجِعُونَ النَّصْبُ فِي قِيْلِهِ فَشَا ... وَتَغْلِي فَذَكِّرْ طُلْ وَضَمُّ اعْتِلُوا حَلَا
And ṭib — تَرْجِعُونَ; the naṣb in وَقِيلِهِ — fashā; and تَغْلِي — make masculine — ṭul; and the ḍamm of اعْتِلُوا — ḥalā.
205. وَبِالْكَسْرِ إِذْ آيَاتٌ اكْسِرْ مَعًا حِمًى ... وَبِالرَّفْعِ فُوْزٌ خَاطِبًا يُؤْمِنُوا طُلَا
And with kasr — idh; آيَاتٌ — give kasr in both — ḥiman; and with rafʿ — a triumph; addressing — تُؤْمِنُونَ — ṭulā.
206. لِنَجْزِيْ بِيَا جَهِّلْ أَلاَ كُلُّ ثَانِيًا ... بِنَصْبٍ حَوَى وَالسَّاعَةَ الرَّفْعُ فُصِّلَا
لِيُجْزَى with yāʾ — make passive — indeed; كُلُّ the second with naṣb — ḥawā; and السَّاعَةُ — the rafʿ is set out distinctly.

207. وَحُزْ فَصْلُهُ كُرْهًا تَرَى وَالْوِلاَ كَعَا ... صِمٍ تَقْطَعُوا أُمْلِي اسْكِنِ الْيَاءَ حُلِّلَا
And ḥuz — its separation; كُرْهًا — you see; and the following like ʿĀṣim; تُقَطِّعُوا; أُمْلِي — make the yāʾ sākin — made lawful.
208. وَنَبْلُوا كَذَا طِبْ يُؤْمِنُوا وَالثَّلاثَ خَا ... طِبًا حُزْ سَيُؤْتِيْهِ بِنُونٍ يَلِيْ وِلَا
And نَبْلُوَ likewise — ṭib; تُؤْمِنُوا and the three — addressing — ḥuz; سَنُؤْتِيهِ with nūn — it follows in succession.
209. وَحُطْ يَعْمَلُوا خَاطِبْ وَفَتْحَا تُقَدِّمُوا ... حَوَى حُجُرَاتِ الْفَتْحُ فِي الْجِيْمِ أُعْمِلاَ
And ḥuṭ — تَعْمَلُونَ — address; and the two fatḥs of تُقَدِّمُوا — ḥawā; [in] الْحُجُرَات the fatḥ in the jīm is given effect.
210. وَإِخْوَتِكُمْ حِرْزٌ وَنُوْنَ يَقُولُ أُدْ ... وَقَوْمِ انْصِبًا حِفْظًا وَوَاتَّبَعَتْ حَلَا
And إِخْوَتِكُمْ — a safeguard; and the nūn of نَقُولُ — ud; and قَوْمُ? — give naṣb, as a protection; and وَاتَّبَعَتْ — ḥalā.
211. وَبَعْدُ ارْفَعَنْ وَالصَّادُ فِي بِمُصَيْطِرٍ ... مَعَ الْجَمْعِ فِدْ وَالْحَبْرُ كَذَّبَ ثَقَّلَا
And afterwards — raise; and the ṣād in بِمُصَيْطِرٍ, with the plural — fid; and the learned one — كَذَّبَ he made heavy.
212. كَتَا اللاَّتَ طُلْ تَمْرُونَهُ حُمْ وَمُسْتَقِرْ ... رٌ اخْفِضْ إِذًا سَتَعْلَمُو الْغَيْبُ فُصِّلَا
Like the tāʾ of اللَّاتَ — ṭul; تَمْرُونَهُ — ḥum; and مُسْتَقِرٍّ — give khafḍ; then سَيَعْلَمُونَ — the third person is set out.

216. وَيَظَّاهَرُوا كَالشَّامِ أَنِّثْ مَعًا يَكُو ... نُ دُوْلَةٌ اِذْ رَفْعٌ وَأَكْثَرُ حُصِّلَا
And يَظَّاهَرُوا like the Shām[-reader]; make feminine both تَكُونُ; دُولَةٌ — idh — rafʿ; and أَكْثَرُ is attained.
217. وَفُزْ يَتَنَاجَوْ يَنْتَجُوا مَعْ تَنْتَجُو ... طُوًى يُخْرِبُوا خَفِّفْهُ مَعْ جُدُرٍ حَلَا
And fuz — يَتَنَاجَوْنَ [as] يَنْتَجُونَ, with تَنْتَجُوا? — ṭuwan; يُخَرِّبُونَ — lighten it; with جُدُرٍ — ḥalā.

220. وَحُطْ يُؤْمِنُوا يَذَّكَّرُوا يَسْأَلُ اضْمُمًا ... أَلاَ وَشَهَادَاتٍ خَطِيْئَاتِ حُمِّلَا
And ḥuṭ — تُؤْمِنُوا and تَذَكَّرُونَ; يُسْأَلُ? نَسْأَلُ — give ḍamm — indeed; and شَهَادَاتِ and خَطِيئَاتِ — carried.

221. وَأَنَّهْ تَعَالَى كَانَ لَمَّا افْتَحًا أَبٌ ... تَقُولَ تَقَوَّلْ حُزْ وَقُلْ إِنَّمَا أَلَا
And أَنَّهُ تَعَالَى, كَانَ, لَمَّا — give fatḥ — a father; تَقُولَ [as] تَقَوَّلَ — ḥuz; and say إِنَّمَا — indeed.
222. وَقَالَ فَتىً يَعْلَمْ فَضُمَّ طَوَى وَحَا ... مَ وَطْأً وَرَبُّ اخْفِضْ حَوَى الرِّجْزَ إِذْ حَلاَ

227. بِثَانٍ وَقَصْرٌ لاَبِثِيْنَ يَدٌ وَمُدْ ... دَ فُقْ رَبُّ وَالرَّحْمَنُ بِالْخَفْضِ حُمِّلَا
…in the second; and qaṣr — لَبِثِينَ — a hand; and madd — fuq; رَبِّ and الرَّحْمَنِ with khafḍ — carried.
228. تَزَكَّى حَلاَ اشْدُدْ نَاخِرَهْ طِبْ وَنُونُ مُنْـ ... -ذِرٌ قُتِّلَتْ شَدِّدْ أَلاَ سُعِّرَتْ طِلَا
تَزَّكَّى — ḥalā — double; نَاخِرَة — ṭib; and the nūn of مُنْذِرٌ [tanwīn]; قُتِّلَتْ — double — indeed; سُعِّرَتْ — ṭilā.
229. وَحُزْ نُشِّرَتْ خَفِّفْ وَضَادُ ظَنِينِ يَا ... تُكَذِّبُ غَيْبًا أُدْ وَتَعْرِفُ جَهِّلَا
And ḥuz — نُشِرَتْ — lighten; and the ḍād of ضَنِينٍ; يُكَذِّبُ — as third person — ud; and تُعْرَفُ? — make passive…
230. وَنَضْرَةُ حُزْ أُدْ وَاتْلُ يَصْلَى وَآخِرَ الْـ ... بُرُوجِ كَحَفْصٍ يُؤْثِرُوا خَاطِبًا حُلَا
…and نَضْرَةُ — ḥuz ud; and recite يَصْلَى, and the end of al-Burūj, like Ḥafṣ; تُؤْثِرُونَ — addressing — ḥulā.
Farsh: From al-Ghāshiyah to the End of the Qurʾān (وَمِنْ سُوْرَةِ الْغَاشِيَةِ إِلَى آخِرِ الْقُرْآنِ)¶
231. وَيُسْمَعُ مَعْ مَا بَعْدَ كَالْكُوْفِ يَا أَخِي ... وَإِيَّابَهُمْ شَدِّدْ فَقَدَّرَ أُعْمِلَا
And تُسْمَعُ with what follows, like the Kūfan, O my brother; and إِيَّابَهُمْ — double; فَقَدَّرَ — given effect.
232. تَحُضُّونَ فَامْدُدْ إِذْ يُعَذِّبُ يُوْثِقُ افْـ ... تَحًا فَكُّ إِطْعَامٌ كَحَفْصٍ حُلًى حَلَا
تَحُضُّونَ — prolong [تَحَاضُّونَ]; يُعَذِّبُ and يُوثِقُ — give fatḥ; فَكُّ and إِطْعَامٌ like Ḥafṣ — ḥulan ḥalā.
233. وَقُلْ لُبَدًا مَعْهُ الْبَرِيَّةِ شُدَّ أُدْ ... وَمَطْلَعِ فَاكْسِرْ فُزْ وَجَمَّعَ ثَقِّلَا
And say لُبَّدًا — with it الْبَرِيَّةِ — double — ud; and مَطْلِعِ — give kasr — fuz; and جَمَّعَ — make heavy.
234. أَلاَ يَعْلُ لِيْلافِ اتْلُ مَعْهُ إِلاَفِهِمْ ... وَكُفْؤًا سُكُونُ الْفَاءِ حِصْنٌ تَكَمَّلَا
Indeed it rises; لِإِيلَافِ — recite; with it إِلَافِهِمْ; and كُفُؤًا — sukūn of the fāʾ — a fortress made complete.
Khātimah (الْخَاتِمَة)¶
235. وَتَمَّ نِظَامُ الدُّرَّةِ احْسِبْ بِعَدِّهَا ... وَعَامَ أَضَاحَجِّي فَأَحْسِنْ تَفَؤُّلَا
And the versification of al-Durrah is complete — count its number, and the year of my ḥajj [in the chronogram] — so take the best of omens.
236. غَرِيْبَةُ أَوْطَانٍ بِنَجْدٍ نَظَمْتُهَا ... وَعُظْمُ اشْتِغَالِ الْبَالِ وَافٍ وَكَيْفَ لاَ
A stranger far from home, in Najd I composed it, with the mind's occupation at its fullest — and how not so?
237. صُدِدْتُ عَنِ الْبَيْتِ الْحَرَامِ وَزَوْرِيَ الْـ ... -مَقَامَ الشَّرِيْفَ الْمُصْطَفَى أَشْرَفَ الْمَلَا
I was turned away from the Sacred House, and from my visit to the noble station of al-Muṣṭafā, the noblest of creation.
238. وَطَوَّقَنِي الأَعْرَابُ بِاللَّيْلِ غَفْلَةُ ... فَمَا تَرَكُوا شَيْئًا وَكِدْتُ لأُقْتَلَا
And the bedouins encircled me by night, unawares — they left nothing behind, and I was nearly killed.
239. فَأَدْرَكَنِيْ اللُّطْفُ الْخَفِيُّ وَرَدَّنِيْ ... عُنَيْزَةَ حَتَّى جَاءَنِي مَنْ تَكَفَّلَا
Then the hidden kindness [of Allāh] overtook me and returned me to ʿUnayzah, until there came to me one who took charge…
240. بِحَمْلِي وَإِيْصَالِي لِطَيْبَةَ آمِنًا ... فَيَا رَبِّ بَلِّغْنِي مُرَادِي وَسَهِّلَا
…of carrying me and delivering me safely to Ṭaybah [Madinah] — so O my Lord, bring me to my goal and make it easy.
241. وَمُنَّ بِجَمْعِ الشَّمْلِ وَاغْفِرْ ذُنَوبَنَا ... وَصَلِّ عَلَى خَيْرِ الأَنَامِ وَمَنْ تَلَا
And bestow the reunion of what was scattered, and forgive our sins, and send blessings upon the best of creation and those who follow.
