Scholar Review: Items Awaiting Expert Confirmation

Purpose of This Page

Throughout this textbook, individual rulings are flagged (awaiting confirmation) inline. This means:

The reading or rule is decoded from the matn (text) of al-Shāṭibiyyah — the cipher letters identified, the reading described, and the logic traced — but the result has not yet been confirmed against a printed sharḥ (commentary) or a qualified recitation teacher.

These items are not necessarily wrong. Many are almost certainly correct, decoded by careful analysis of the poem's cipher system. But they have not passed through a second check against an authoritative source.

What a reviewing scholar is asked to do:

  1. Read each flagged item in context (the inline tag keeps it visible).
  2. Check the stated reading against a printed sharḥ (e.g., Ibrāhīm al-Marʿashī's Sirāj al-Qāriʾ, Ibn al-Qāṣiḥ's commentary, or equivalent) or against course notes.
  3. If correct — no action needed; the tag can be removed later.
  4. If incorrect or nuanced — note the correction with a reference so the chapter can be updated.

The items below remain flagged in the live chapters until a scholar explicitly confirms or corrects them.

A focused checklist of priority items has been prepared for a qualified scholar: the genuinely uncertain readings (e.g. the Q36:49 يَخِصِّمُونَ ikhtilās distribution, madd al-faṣl, and the tenth-reading ghunnah question).

Priority Classification

Critical — Rules Stated as Definitive

These are stated as categorical rules (not merely farsh word-readings) but remain unconfirmed. They affect how the entire Quran is recited for a rāwī, not just individual words.

Chapter Rule Link
Ch 05: Nāfiʿ Common Section heading "Later Sūrahs (Sūrahs 37–88)" — the completeness of the farsh coverage for that range is marked awaiting confirmation Ch 6 — Qālūn / Ch 7 — Warsh

Farsh — Individual Word-Reading Attributions

The vast majority of awaiting confirmation items are farsh (individual word) readings decoded from the matn. These are grouped below by chapter with direct links. The inline tags are the primary reference — this page is an index.

The Three of al-Durrah — Readings 8–10 (new, 2026-07-02)

These three readings (Abū Jaʿfar, Yaʿqūb, Khalaf al-ʿĀshir — six rāwī chapters + three imām overviews) is decoded from al-Durrah al-Muḍiyyah (241-line master text collated from two independent editions and adjudicated against the Īḍāḥ's verse boxes — see the collation log in sources/durrah/). Every uṣūl ruling carries its Durrah line and the page of al-Īḍāḥ li-matn al-Durrah (ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ al-Qāḍī), whose commentary names each reader explicitly; nothing was attributed from the rumūz alone. Secondary checks: al-Budūr al-Zāhirah, al-Bahjah al-Marḍiyyah (al-Ḍabbāʿ), teaching slides, and the color-coded Ruways/Rawḥ muṣḥafs. For the reviewing scholar, note especially: the اذ/أُد print ambiguity resolved at Durrah lines 230/232/233; the Īḍāḥ's internal tension at لِأَهْلِهِ امْكُثُوا (p.30 vs p.31); and the naskh variant it reports at وَيَتَّقْهِ (جُدْ حُزْ in some Durrah copies, rejected per al-Taḥbīr).

Newly Added: Yāʾāt Sections (Ibn ʿĀmir, Ḥamzah, al-Kisāʾī)

Yāʾ al-iḍāfah and yāʾāt al-zawāʾid sections were added to Chapters 18, 19, 26, 27, 30, and 31 (added 2026-07-01), decoded from matn lines 388–441 and cross-checked against al-Wāfī fī Sharḥ al-Shāṭibiyyah and a second published sharḥ. Two taḥrīr points are flagged for the reviewing scholar:

  1. أَرَهْطِيَ (Q11:92) for Hishām — the Shāṭibiyyah's ẓāhir gives the fatḥ to Ibn Dhakwān only (line 398); Ibn al-Jazarī transmits two wajhs for Hishām, fatḥ being the better known. The chapters follow the matn and footnote the taḥrīr.
  2. كِيدُونِ (Q7:195) for Hishām — the matn's ẓāhir is khulf between ithbāt and ḥadhf in both states (lines 431–432); the settled taḥrīr of al-Nashr is ithbāt only. Both are stated in Ch 18.

The Durrah farsh is complete: every Durrah-stated reading (lines 62–234) is decoded against al-Īḍāḥ and compiled into the six chapters, including the "as Ḥafṣ" departures-from-aṣl. Text-recension variants adjudicated during the decode (Durrah lines 31, 35, 128, 174, 188; vv.222/231/233 flagged as dual-recension) are logged in sources/durrah/text-discrepancies-durrah.md for the reviewer.

How to Report Corrections

For each item reviewed, note:

  1. Chapter and section (e.g., "Ch 13 §4, row 7")
  2. The Quranic reference (e.g., Q2:222)
  3. The stated reading and what the sharḥ says
  4. Source (book title, page number, or slide reference)

Corrections can be provided as a list or as marginal notes on a printed copy of the chapter. The flags can then be replaced with a source citation.

Total items: 351 across 20 chapters.
